Holy Spirit College provides a range of opportunities for the students to develop their skills in public speaking.
A highlight of the calendar is the annual South Coast Public Speaking competition, hosted by the school. The competition brings together schools from different sectors from the Illawarra, Campbelltown and the Southern Highlands and give the students experience drafting, rehearsing and performing their chosen speech for a live audience.
Senior students can also elect to compete in the local Lions Youth of the Year competition where the students prepare a formal speech and deliver two impromptu speeches in a competition with other students leaders in the region.
All students have the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills through the lunchtime Debate Club. This enables students to develop not only their rhetorical expertise but also their confidence and collegiality in a competitive and supportive environment
Additionally, as part of the English curriculum, students draft and present informal and formal speeches. These range from formal analytical speeches to creative monologues and multimedia presentations.
